Start 2019 With the Basics - Basic Massage & Hydrotherapy

Make 2019 the Year You Begin a New Career in Massage Therapy

2019 could be your year to shine with a new career. Now is a great time to establish goals for the upcoming year. If you want to make a career change, but have not chosen a new field, start with the basics. Here are the top three reasons you should study basic massage therapy for your new career.

You Can Complete Your Studies Quickly

The state of Florida requires that a massage student receive 500 classroom hours of instruction under the direct supervision of a faculty member. (The law says a classroom hour must be at least 50 minutes.) You may think that it would take a long time to finish your coursework. However, with 6 months full-time study or 12 months part-time study, you would be prepared to take your board exam to be a licensed massage therapist in Florida.

You Would Join a Growing, Well-Paid Field

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that jobs for massage therapists will grow by 26 percent from 2016 to 2026. The median pay for this position is $39,990 reports the BLS.

Excellent Training Is Available to You

Space Coast Education Center has a Basic Massage and Hydrotherapy Program that meets state requirements and trains students for an entry-level job. The comprehensive curriculum covers massage therapy with a focus on hydrotherapy. Students also learn Florida massage law, sports massage, neuromuscular massage, anatomy, and physiology. Here are the program's goals:

  • To equip students to pass the Florida State Board Exam for massage therapy.

  • To cultivate each student's growth to become a healthcare professional in a nurturing environment.

  • To supply well-qualified instructors who know the profession well.
