When looking for a massage school, there are some important issues to consider.

1. What is the graduation rate?
The graduation rate will tell you what percent of students who start the program actually graduate from the program. The massage school should be able to provide you with the numbers on this. See if they break down why people left and did not complete the program. If a high percentage of people left the program because they did not like it, that is a red flag warning you of problems at the school.

2. What is the placement rate after graduation?
Ask to see the statistics on how many people find work in massage therapy upon graduation. If the percentage is low, find out why. Many different reasons are possible. Perhaps students just decided that was not the career for them. Perhaps the school does not help with job placement upon graduation. You want a school that will help graduates with job placement.

3. What is the school's reputation?
Ask massage therapy clinics in the area what they think of the school you want to attend. Ask if they have hired graduates. If yes, what has their experience with graduates been like? Have the graduates performed well or did they perform poorly? If the students performed poorly, word will get around that the school does not properly train their students to work in the real world. You do not want to attend a school with a bad reputation as it will lower your chances of finding a position upon graduation.

These are the top three questions to ask when seeking a massage therapy school. If you don't like the answers you receive, keep looking for another school.
