After school is completed, you can start thinking about what to expect at your hospital internship. The first thing that you will do is complete paperwork and possibly go through an orientation class. You will meet some of the doctors, nurses and other staff members who you will learn from and assist. You will rotate to almost every department. This will be a good thing because you can see where you want to work in the hospital if you have not decided on a final career path. As you begin your internship, pay attention to what you are told. Try not to get in the way unless you are asked to help with something. After you learn how to do it, then volunteer your skills so that the nurses and doctors see that you know how to do it.

A hospital internship for a massage therapy student will include assisting patients who might not be able to get out of bed on a regular basis. You will learn about giving a massage while the patient is in bed and while the person is sitting in a wheelchair. Your internship will also include information on how to give a medical massage. Areas in the hospital that you might visit include the emergency room, operating room and X-ray department. The massages that you give might be grueling because the patient cannot turn to a position that is easy to access, but when you give a massage to a patient, it will mean the world to him or her. You will help patients who are suffering from terminal diseases or who might be bedridden.
