Many people are very sensitive about their skin problems, so it's very important for an esthetician to be understanding and supportive to their clients. This is something they need in addition to their training to perform cosmetic skin treatments.

You may find them working in a day spa, beauty salon or wellness center. Their days are spent administering microdermabrasion, light or deep chemical peels and masks. They should be expected to analyze the client's skin condition and come up with a plan for an at-home regimen of skin care products and techniques to help each client achieve better skin.

It is very important that they be able to recognize a potentially serious skin problem that is too big for them to handle and refer the client over to a medical doctor. They can be very valuable in being your early warning system for serious skin disorders.

Some also work alongside a dermatologist. In other cases you may find them working with a cosmetic surgeon specifically to help with post surgery healing and the minimization of scarring.

An esthetician has an important role for anyone seeking better skin. They are a great place to start when you feel you need a little help with your looks.
