Tips for the Shy Esthetician
Posted on: December 4, 2013
It is the nature of working as an esthetician that you must be sociable and empathetic. In addition, working as an esthetician requires that you spend time with people who may be nude or very bare. Unfortunately, not all of us are built with natural charisma and sociability, especially in situations that may feel uncomfortable. On the bright side, there are a few ways you can become less shy as you work. The first thing you need to do is think about the cause of your shyness. Are you shy because you do not think highly of yourself? Are you too focused on coming off well? Are you just nervous because you are on the job? By digging to the root of the problem, you can work on a plan for improvement.
You might find that taking esthetician-geared courses helps to relieve some of your shyness. When you know what to expect when you are working with customers and are used to waxing strangers, you will feel much more comfortable. Practice makes perfect, after all. The best thing about these classes is that they move slowly. You may start by waxing arms and legs, then brows before moving to Brazilian waxing.
One thing you must remember is that your customer is likely more nervous than you are. In fact, some people may not even realize that you are shy because they are nervous about being waxed or treated. Keeping this in mind may help you feel more confident.
When you remember that you have strengths, including your skills as a licensed esthetician, you are more likely to overcome your shyness. Simply because you have been labeled as shy in the past does not mean that you must carry this into your work.
