The Perfect Oil for You

One of the most useful tools in massage therapy is massage oils. You may also hear of therapists using herbal liniments or powders; however, oil is the most common. Its soothing properties reduce friction from the therapists’ hands as they rub clients’ skin.

For additional massage therapy benefits, a therapist may add a few drops of essential oils. In this case, the main oil acts as a carrier oil. There are several types of massage oil from which to choose. Here are some popular oils that may benefit you on your next trip to the day spa:

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet almond oil is the perennial choice as a massage or carrier oil. It is derived from sweet almonds and has their gentle, sweet fragrance. As it is massaged into your skin, it will easily blend and absorb slowly. Sweet almond oil has a thin viscosity and texture. Sweet almond oil nourishes and moisturizes your skin. No wonder why so many massage therapists combine these types of massage oil with vitamin oils or other fragrant oils.

Olive Oil

You have probably read a lot about the proven benefits of adding olive oil to your diet. The same healthy Omega- 3 fatty acids found in this oil also gives strength and suppleness to your skin. It has been used in the Middle East and Mediterranean areas as a carrier oil for centuries. They have always known that this pure massage oil can make your skin brighter and ageless. Olive oil is a good choice if you have a nut allergy.

Coconut Oil

Even without the addition of essential oils, coconut oil has a light, delicious smell and is a favorite massage oil. Ancient people from tropical regions have long venerated the anti-aging characteristics of coconut oil. If you have muscle pain, this oil can minimize and soothe it. It will not block your pores, and will naturally fight acne on your body. It lasts a long time on the shelf.

Grapeseed Oil

Here is another organic oil that is nutritious for you diet and a superb oil for massage therapy. You will love how gentle it is on your skin, and how it gives you a healthy glow. Grapeseed oil is a natural anti-allergen and an antibiotic. When it is used as a carrier oil, it fights bacteria that can cause breakouts and other blemishes. It mixes with other essential oils quite well, as it holds in much-needed moisture for your skin.

Sesame Seed Oil

If you are looking for a powerhouse carrier oil, you might consider sesame seed oil. It was used in the ancient Hindu medical system known as Ayurveda. Even then, they know that this oil pressed from sesame seeds could strengthen muscles, ligaments, and tendons. They massaged it into people’s bodies to increase circulation and to fight a host of other ailments. It can be used alone or with one of your favorite essential oil blends in a day spa for optimal benefits.
