Skincare Buzzwords - Are They Safe?

Many people buy their skin care products based on what they read. However, it is important to ask "Is everything we read true?" The answer to that question is no. There are buzzwords that you need to look out for.

Patented Technology

A product may have patented technology on the label, but that does not mean that it is effective or groundbreaking. Companies put this label on the product in order to give themselves an advantage over their competitor.

Maximum Strength

Maximum strength is a term that is often used on moisturizer and cleaner labels. It is a vague term that is used to get more people to buy the product.

Clinical Strength

The term clinical strength is deceptive. The doctors who tested the product may be the ones who put the clinical strength label on their products. Clinical strength is a relative term and doesn't necessarily mean that the product is better.

For All Skin Types

Every skin type is not the same. Some people are allergic to certain ingredients. That is why the professionals at the day spa have to be careful when performing spa treatments. It is always a good idea to consult with a dermatologist before you use a product if you already have a skin condition.

FDA-Approved

FDA approval simply means that the FDA has deemed the product safe to use. It does not mean that the product is effective.

Anti-Aging

Many people have seen those commercials with airbrushed models who have been able to get great results from using anti-aging products. However, no skincare product will turn back the hands of time. Your diet, exercise plan, and stress level will determine how well you age.

Botanical

A product may have the word botanical on it, but that does not mean that it came from a plant. In fact, it may have come from a synthetic ingredient that is similar to a plant.

Firming

There is no product that has been proven to firm your skin. It is impossible to measure if a product makes your skin firmer.

Instant Results

You may be able to instantly get results. However, the results probably will not last for a long time.
