Many New Year’s resolutions seem to be of the subtracting variety that makes us do something we really don’t want to do. There’s no reason a resolution can’t be pleasant and healthy at the same time, after all. Why not treat yourself to a more relaxed and healthy body? Instead of pounding it out in the local gym, consider massage therapy. Here are some of the best reasons for consider massage during the coming year.

Relaxation

If you have a stressful job or home life, you are probably often tense. This tension translates into headaches, body pains or migraines. Why not learn meditation for easing daily stress? Some of the softer, relaxation massages will help, along with your meditation, achieve that stress-free state.

As Part of the Workout

Some of today’s exercise programs really put you through the wringer. If you are into extreme exercise programs, spinning classes or long-distance running, you know that aches and pains are part of the deal. Make a resolution that, along with the exercise, you will see a massage therapist to regularly get out those kinks.

Personal Health

People with conditions such as sciatica, fibromyalgia or other soft tissue conditions many times need far fewer drugs and can achieve significant relief from pain and muscle soreness and stiffness. It is important to make a plan and follow it through if you want to stick to your resolution. If massage therapy sounds heaven-sent, then investigate some of the licensed massage therapists in your neighborhood. Make an appointment to see their facilities and meet with the therapist. If it is a good fit, try a few sessions first. Once you’ve found your perfect match, make a plan to go regularly.
