Understand Sanitation Guidelines
As a spa student, you must learn how to care for the tools that are used in a spa. There are sanitation guidelines that you should follow to meet the regulations of your region, but you should also learn about the newest ways to sterilize makeup brushes and other tools. Customers expect you to use the cleanest tools during a makeup application, facial cleansing or hair removal process.
Steps for Cleaning Makeup Brushes
Cleaning makeup brushes is essential, and there are easy steps to go through that include:
• Dipping the brushes in lukewarm water to remove most of the makeup
• Place a drop of the appropriate cleanser in the palm of your hand
• Rub the brush in the palm of your hand as additional debris is lifted from the bristles
• Rinse the brushes under lukewarm water
• Wrap a brush in a clean towel before squeezing gently to remove the water
• Reshape each brush's bristles
Practice Using Cosmetology Equipment and Tools
You should have multiple sets of cosmetology equipment and tools so that you can provide services for several clients at one time. While working with clients, remember to switch between the different sets of makeup brushes and other applicators. This requires practice to remember to change to a new brush for the application of foundation or blush, but it will prevent contamination in the spa.
Proper Disposal of Waste
Many spas order disposable items for cleansing or moisturizing facials and the applications of eye shadow or lipstick. It is vital to learn how to use these optimally to avoid waste while also remembering to throw the dirty items away correctly. There are additional items that you should sterilize during the spa services, including the countertops, sinks, and chairs that your clients can see during a makeup application.
