Preparing Your Client for The Holiday Season
Posted on: October 31, 2014
As a massage therapist, you know the numerous health benefits of massage therapy. But do your clients know? Some clients may be visiting you to relieve pain or to rehabilitate after an injury. While they obviously know some of the health benefits of massage, they may not be aware of its stress-relieving capabilities. As an expert on the topic, this is something you can share with them. Let your clients know that with the busyness of the holiday season, a few months of seasonal stress lie ahead. Some of these stressors might include: Shopping. Dashing up and down the aisles at the local mall looking for the perfect present can lead to tense and tired muscles from carrying packages and extra walking. Cooking. While some folks enjoy cooking, others cook only because they have to eat. For them, putting on a big holiday dinner is a blood-pressure-raising event. Decorating. Trimming the tree, putting up outdoor lights and wrapping presents can overload an already busy schedule. Traditions & Expectations. Just because someone has always hand-made all the gifts and cooked every holiday meal from scratch doesn’t mean they have to continue the traditions for another year. Family. Let’s face it. Not all family members are loving and kind or the type of folks you choose to associate with. Some are downright toxic. Seeing them at the holidays after avoiding them all year is, at best, uncomfortable. Discuss with your clients how making time for a professional massage during the holidays can relieve seasonal stress by lowering their heart rate and blood pressure as well as their cortisol and insulin levels. They may not know that massage releases endorphins that calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety. This discussion might be the best gift they’ve ever received.
