Achieving healthy skin requires a diligent and effective skin care routine. Regular visits to a dermatologist and esthetician, use of effective products and cleansing one’s face, and proper sleep all contribute to beautiful skin.
A nighttime skin care routine is particularly important to achieving healthy skin. Removing makeup and dirt from one’s skin before bed greatly impacts skin tone and clarity. A healthy nighttime skin care routine should include cleaning the skin with facial cleanser in order to achieve complete makeup removal. This will also remove any dirt and residue trapped in the skin from the day’s activities. Toner, which should be applied after cleaning the skin, removes leftover dirt and shrinks pores, leaving the skin feeling refreshed. Exfoliation of the skin should be done on a semi-regular basis as well. Exfoliation can be quite harsh on the skin if done nightly, but it is a critical step to healthy skin as it removes the dead skin cells. This allows for the cells to regenerate and for healthy, beautiful skin to grow in its place. Nighttime-specific skin care products such as lotions and creams should be applied as well. The type of lotion used is specific to the concerns one wants to address. Different nighttime lotions target different issues with the skin such as acne, dry skin and wrinkles. Areas requiring special attention should also be treated at this time. Visits to a dermatologist and regular esthetician care can provide one with medicated or suggested treatments and skin care products for areas of great concern.
Most importantly, an ample amount of sleep is needed to achieve healthy skin. Sleep allows the products and treatments mentioned above to work, as it provides ample time with minimal skin interactions. Sleep also rejuvenates the skin and prevents the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness.
