If you would like to have a career in the medical field but are not interested in going to medical school or school for nursing, then becoming a medical or paramedical esthetician may be a great career choice for you.

Medical or paramedical estheticians work closely with doctors and other health care professionals to help patients with their appearance.  Some examples of patients who would need a medical esthetician are those who are recovering from plastic surgery, those who are dealing with skin sensitivities due to medications or radiation therapy and those who need help concealing a facial disfigurement.  Medical estheticians can also perform certain services such as microdermabrasion or laser hair removal under the direction of a physician.

As the health care industry grows, there is an increasing demand for medical estheticians.  Medical estheticians work in a medical setting and should be comfortable using medical terms and dealing with various ailments of the skin.  They should be able to speak easily with patients about skin care needs and be open to different skin techniques and treatments.  In order to become a medical esthetician, you must complete esthetician school and become certified.  Certification can vary by state.

If you are interested in becoming a medical or paramedical esthetician, contact Space Coast Health Institute at 321-308-8000 to find out more about their program.
