Maybe It's Not The Right Time For A Massage

A good massage therapist recognizes when a massage is not in the client's best interest. If your client is running a fever or experiencing nausea or dizziness, then it's important to let your client know that they shouldn't get a massage. Good customer service is the motto of a fantastic MT. Contraindications for massage therapy would include skin ailments, immune system issues and respiratory issues. Good communication with the massage therapy client is an important part of returning customers. Massage therapy modalities include anti-aging treatments, relaxation therapies and meditation type music. Massage therapy can make your client relax and forget about their worries with proper techniques. Some clients want a massage to address specific conditions such as improving circulation, greater flexibility and increasing vitality and energy levels. Improving circulation helps the body delivery much-needed oxygen and nutrients to the cells. It also helps eliminate toxins and waste products within the digestive system. A good massage therapist can decrease pain and improve function of tendon and muscle tears, sore muscles from overuse and relieve tension headaches. Many clients report emotional and physical benefits such as improved sleep patterns, reduced fatigue and an improvement in overall mood. Relaxation techniques manage symptoms of diabetes, gout and chronic diseases. Clients should let their MT know about any allergies to lotions, powders and oils. An MT uses these products to reduce friction on the skin and improve circulation. Soft music is provided in most cases, so let the MT know if music is distracting to you. Report any discomfort during the massage session such as room temperature. Let your MT know about any fears or concerns you may have. Ask lots of questions before the session begins to ease your mind. A good massage will help you relax, and you'll feel more refreshed and alive.
