The massage industry is a highly competitive industry and many people want to pursue their dream and help others through massage. This career choice is a good one, but before you begin you must make sure that you have all of your massage therapy supplies. It may slip your mind when it comes time to begin gathering everything you need. You need more things than you may think of right off the top of your head and these are the essentials to get started. Without them, you will not be able to perform massages correctly.
Stool
You will need a stool to sit on when you are performing massages. Although you may be standing most of the time, when you focus on the feet or hands, you may have the opportunity to sit and perform the massage better. The stool should be on wheels to allow you to move around as needed without causing a disruption.
Massage Table
A massage table is a necessity in the massage business and without one, you will not be able to correctly and adequately perform a massage on your client. The massage table should be comfortable and should provide your client with the relaxation they expect. An uncomfortable table will disrupted a client’s relaxation.
Linens and Towels
You should have an adequate supply of fresh towels and linens for your clients to use. Hygiene and sanitation is important and you must make sure to constantly wash and clean the linens and towels. Each room should have a sheet on the table and a sheet for the client to cover up. Towels should also be available for the client’s use.
Oils and Lotions
Oils and lotions will aid in the client’s massage and it is important to have an adequate amount on hand so you do not run out. Essential oils help to relax your client and also make them feel better. Consider keeping different scents on hand for your client to choose from.
Music
Music is part of the relaxation of a massage and you should always have different CDs available and on hand so that your client can relax in peace. You can even ask your client which CD they prefer to listen to.
The Basics
These are the basic pieces of equipment you need to get started and you will think of more things as you become experienced and start your career. It is important to make sure that you are constantly keeping your office space and equipment clean. Your clients will enjoy a day of relaxing massage and you can provide this to them.
