Massage therapy is a career choice that is on the rise. Because of the flexible hours and the many different setting that they can choose to work in, massage therapists are growing in numbers.There are a few things that are characteristic of most massage therapists. Most massage therapists are female. Only about fifteen percent of massage therapists are males. Most people who opt to work in the field of massage therapy are entering the massage therapy profession as a second career. On the average, massage therapists are in their early forties. Most massage therapists are members of a professional organization. Massages therapists generally work an average of nineteen hours per week giving their clients massages. This amount of time does not include other times spend on the job doing tasks such as billing, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment or scheduling appointments. The average cost of a one hours massage is sixty-three dollars, but the average wage that a massage therapist earns per hour is forty-one dollars including tip. Most massage therapists provide Swedish massage as part of their services.
