Keeping Yourself Fit

Massage therapy is no joke. Spending hours a day with countless clients can be taxing on your hands and on your body. While it's important to take care of clients, it's equally important to take care of yourself. The better your personal health is the better off your clients will be after being treated by you.
Get Regular Massages
Massages are not only important for your clients, but are important for you as a massage therapist as well. As a massage therapist, you should receive a massage at least every other week. This will help you avoid "massage burnout", which happens when therapists fail to maintain their personal health. While these massages don't have to be particularly extensive, they should address any problem areas on your body.
Exercise and Eat Well
Strong personal health requires that you eat well, exercise and get plenty of rest. Make sure to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Eat healthy foods and exercise at least three times a week, one hour at a time. More exercise will definitely benefit you and your clients, because you'll become stronger and will be able to perform better during sessions. Clients will also benefit when you get plenty of rest. A massage therapist who isn't focused during a session will make costly mistakes that could hinder a client's progress or hurt them further. Before heading to work, make sure you've completed a personal fitness session each day.
Take a Break
Just like any other career, massage therapy can cause someone to become extremely tired and mentally drained. Take a vacation once in awhile or go on a short weekend trip with your friends or family. If you don't exercise, sleep or eat well, you're not only putting yourself at risk, you're putting your client's health at risk as well. Follow a strict exercise and sleep routine to get the most out of your career.
