Is Being A Licensed Massage Therapist Hard on Your Body?

A licensed massage therapist has a rewarding career. Massage therapy helps people improve their health and wellness. People get spa treatments because they want to achieve relaxation. You can make a major difference in the lives of other people by working at a day spa. However, if you are a massage student, then it is important to remember that this career can be taxing on your body.

You will have to stand up for 6 to 8 hours per day. You will also spend a lot of time kneading, which can be taxing on your arms and hands. Tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tendonitis are some of the conditions that you are prone to as a massage therapist. Furthermore, burnout is common in massage therapy. Burnout can make it difficult for you to complete your daily activities.

The good news is that there are many things that you can do to protect yourself as a massage therapist. You will need to take the following self-care steps.

Get Enough Sleep

You should make sure that you end the workday with a good night's rest. Sleep will restore you and heal you of any injuries that you have incurred.

Get the Proper Nutrition

If you do three to four massage therapy sessions per day, then this is the equivalent of doing a moderate-intensity workout. Your body uses nutrients in order to sustain you during physical activity. You can replenish your body with the proper nutrients by eating healthy. You should also make sure that you drink a lot of water.

Have Fun

It is important to have a life outside of your career. Take some time off and spend it doing the things that you like. This will give your mind and body a rest.
