Introducing Decorative Elements in a Massage Room
Posted on: July 27, 2012
Introducing decorative elements into a massage therapy room is easy and fun. It can be a great way to personalize the work environment and make it feel like home.Elements That Serve a Purpose
The first and arguably most important aspect of making a great massage therapy room is to incorporate elements that have a purpose. These are the objects that will enhance health, comfort, and utility throughout the room. A great example of this would be organizational space. This includes shelf and cabinet space, places for clients to place their belongings and conveniently located trash cans. It is also important to incorporate elements that keep the room sanitized. This can include ample hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial spray, an abundance of clean towels and an air purifier. These will help keep the room fresh, clean and comfortable for any new or returning client.
Elements that Enhance Aesthetics
The aesthetic value of a massage room is what sets it apart from other functional massage rooms. The look and feel of the room can help to relax clients and make them feel right at home. It's important to incorporate textures and colors in a way that blends in and creates a theme within the room. An example would be creating shades of brown and a sandy, rough texture while scenting the room like spices to create an eastern feel. Another example would be to use white and different shades of blue, along with a water-like texture in order to create the feeling of an ocean. It can also be extremely beneficial to incorporate music into the room. Ambient sounds or simple instrumentals can help promote relaxation and contribute to the overall theme of the room without taking the client's attention off of the massage. Plants such as flowers or small shrubs can make the room feel fresh and natural at all hours of the day, but require care and attention to keep healthy. These should only be added if they will be regularly maintained, or they will begin to die and reduce the quality of the room.
Elements that Improve the Room
Once the room is fully functional and has a unique look, feel, smell and sound, the only action left is to commit to improving the room whenever it is practical. For example, if the room can easily store belongings more conveniently, an investment in new furniture might be the only way to improve the organizational quality of the room. In terms of aesthetics, finding a new fragrance or commissioning a painting of a sunset on the wall can add to the overall quality of the room without taking anything away. It is important to remember that improvement is continuous and never-ending once this point has been reached, so relax and enjoy the room! It may also help to read up on the different philosophies of interior design.
