Improving Your Massage with Aromatherapy
Posted on: April 1, 2012
Massage therapists go to school to learn the techniques of their trade. Once you have graduated, you can choose to practice a variety of massages ranging from deep tissue to reflexology. If you are looking to add something special to your massage for your clients, aromatherapy may be an option for you.Aromatherapy has been used for many years. It is the practice of using plants and their parts to heal, relax and energize the body. During aromatherapy, the application of essential oils derived from plants is used to affect your mood and alleviate pain. During a massage, these essential oils are mixed with a carrier oil such as sweet almond, apricot kernel or grape seed oil. You can choose up to five different oils in each mixture, and you can choose these oils based upon your client’s needs. For example, if you are trying to give your client a relaxing massage, oils such as lavender or bergamot should be used. If you are trying to relieve sore muscles for your client during the massage, oils like peppermint or eucalyptus should be used.
