Improve Sleep With Deep Relaxation Techniques

It has been estimated that one out of five people suffers from insomnia. This lack of sleep affects every aspect of one’s life. You are tired throughout the day. You are less productive at work. Even your relationships may suffer from a lack of sleep.

While medication can help those who need to get more sleep, you may not want to go that route. By implementing a few relaxation techniques, you could be on your way to better sleep without any side effects from drugs.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

This is one of the easiest techniques to do. You simply begin by tensing up muscle groups around the body one by one. Then you relax them in the same manner. You may want to go through each muscle group a few times. If you need more instruction, you can find many free videos and courses online.

Massage Therapy

Getting a full body massage can be one of the most relaxing things you can do. This requires the presence of another person, but it is a good option. Finding a qualified massage therapist should be an easy process. If you live in any medium-sized city, there will no doubt be a day spa close by.

You can probably get a recommendation of a good massage therapist from friends or family. Find one who specializes in deep tissue massage for the best results. Massage therapy can be very effective in your quest for sleep. And if there isn't a day spa near your city, you can no doubt find a therapist who will come to you. Just keep looking.

Autogenic Training

Autogenic training involves focusing your attention on different parts of the body and making a conscious effort to relax them. This is a little more involved than progressive muscle relaxation and will probably require some instruction.

Visualization

By using visualization you can quickly get yourself in a relaxed state. Visualize peaceful, calm setting like a beach or forest, whatever makes you feel good. Or picture yourself effortlessly drifting off to sleep. Literally, the only thing holding you back is your imagination.

While these relaxation techniques may not totally cure your insomnia, they will certainly allow you to get more and better sleep. Start out by using one and add more as needed.
