A career as a massage therapist can be a good one for anyone who likes making money, while having a job that's flexible and allows you to meet many different kinds of people. However, going to massage school and becoming a massage therapist isn't for everyone. Here are a few tips on how to know if a career in massage is right for you.

If you are a people person, then massage therapy may be a good career for you. As a massage therapist, you will work with all kinds of people in an intimate setting on a daily basis. If you are good at talking with people and can put them at ease, you might make a good massage therapist.

If you don't mind physical work, then you might make it as a massage therapist. You will constantly be using your hands and arms to massage and manipulate your clients' bodies, so if you have arthritis or tire easily, massage may not be a career for you.

If the idea of a career that allows you have some flexibility and work on your own terms appeals to you, then massage therapy may be right for you. Massage therapists often are in business for themselves and can work when and where they want. If stability appeals more to you, then you can apply for a full-time staff position at a resort, medical clinic or hotel.

One quality you definitely need to be a massage therapist is a lack of an "eww" factor. Not every client is going to be beautiful or in good physical shape, so you have to be OK with putting your hands on those people. In that respect, being a massage therapist is a bit like being a nurse.
