The technique of massage has been around for around 5,000 years, although it was popularized by a Swiss psychiatrist in 1776. There are an estimated 335,000 to 385,000 massage therapists and students in the United States. Despite the professions wide-spread popularity, the number of students, professionals, and clients could always be higher. One of the greatest ways to increase these numbers is by volunteering. Here are a few ways to help the massage profession by volunteering. 

Offer Free Clinics 

One of the greatest ways to raise awareness and popularity for massage therapy is by offering it for free. There are many community centers, medical centers, sporting event and other public areas where hosts would welcome a free massage clinic. Any place that massaging could be relevant is a good place to start. By offering free services, people are more willing to see what massage is about. These clinics could generate future customers as well as generate some interest amongst others for a future path as a massage student. 

Promote the Benefits 

Another method for promoting the massage profession is by touting the myriad benefits this practice offers. Some of the well-known benefits include stress release and muscle relaxation. However, there are some lesser-known benefits of massage therapy that the general public may not know about. Spreading this knowledge can help to create a common outlook on the profession. Even though massage is a popular practice, not many people are aware of the specifics behind it. Volunteers can speak at conventions, public gatherings or even on boards when invitations are available. 

Volunteering is a great way to raise awareness of the massage practice. By offering free services and information, more people will be willing to learn about the benefits of this profession and how it can improve their lives. This can lead to future customers and even inspire some to become massage students.
