It is extremely important for a student to keep the spa clean during flu season. The flu is spread through droplets that are made when people sneeze, talk and cough. Many people come to spas for a massage during the fall and winter months. That is why the flu can easily spread in a spa. Keeping the area clean is one of the best things that massage therapy students can do to prevent the spread of the flu. You will need to sanitize the area before and after clients leave. You should also make sure that you wash your hands before and after working with clients. Washing hands are one of the best things that can be done to prevent the spread of the flu.

Why Every Massage Therapy Student Should Get A Flu Shot

The Center For Disease Control And Prevention recommends that people who are over the age of six months get a flu shot. The vaccine helps your body build up antibodies against the flu. The antibodies will typically begin to build up two weeks after getting the vaccination. Flu season can start early as October and last as late as May. Flu activity typically peaks in January or February. It is best to get your flu shot before flu season begins. However, the shot can benefit you even if you get it after the start of flu season. It is estimated that the flu shot is 60 to 70 percent effective. It is still possible for one to get the flu after getting the flu shot. However, if one does get the flu, then it will not be as bad if he or she has received the shot. Keep in mind that a massage can also boost the immune system. People with strong immune systems will have an easier time fighting off the flu.
