Spa and spa-related jobs are on the rise, and many men and women make a comfortable living as a nail manicurist. Before working in the field, you must complete a cosmetology program that covers the basics of trimming, painting and polishing nails. A large number of people take a combination of classes in cosmetology school, which increases their job prospects. Whether you have manicure and waxing skills or focused primarily on manicures, you need to know the next step to take after finishing your license.

Start your hunt for a position with a simple job search. You can browse through online classified ads, search the local newspaper or talk to your former teachers about any available jobs. During your employment search, pay special attention to the requirements for the job. Some salons will only hire manicurists who can also handle the waxing needs of clients, while others want manicurists with experience in airbrushing. Applying for positions is a waste of your time and energy.

Depending on where you live, you might find a job by simply calling on different salons. Make a list of salons and nail shops in your area, and take the time to visit each location on your list. Talk to the owner about your experience and skills. Some salons might need extra help but haven't yet placed a help wanted ad.

When you're a new graduate as a nail manicurist, it's important that you find the right fit. Why would you work in a salon where the hairdressers look down on you and the customers always find fault with your work? You should feel comfortable and welcome from the moment you walk through the door. Talk to the men and women on the staff and spend some time around customers before you accept a position from any salon.
