Those who are beginning careers as masseurs of manicurists are embarking on an exciting career path that will allow them to make a living out of bringing beauty to the masses. However, for some people, a lingering fear of feet may be hanging over their heads as something that may cause problems in their profession down the road. Those of us who have a long history in this industry understand this fear, but we also know that it is one that is quite easy to conquer, especially when you consider some simple facts.

First and foremost, a lot of people have a fear of feet that stems from the "ick" factor - or, the idea that feet are dirty, smelly, etc. Those new in the industry would be wise to remember that feet are actually less dirty and full of germs than hands. After all, feet stay in shoes, whereas people touch anything and everything with their hands. A fear of warts and fungi should also be abandoned. While yes, feet sometimes carry these conditions, they are no more commonly found in feet than they are in hands. And should you find these conditions present on a client, you will be well equipped with gloves and antibacterial products to ensure that you do not pick up these pesky skin problems yourself.

All in all, fighting a fear of feet just comes down to diving in head first and reminding yourself that feet are no more dirty than hands or any other part of the human body. In fact, the average client who is diligent about visiting the spa will oftentimes have lovely, well-pedicured feet. Trust us: Dealing with clients' feet is not as scary as you think. Before you know it, your fear of feet will be a long forgotten memory.
