Treating the skin around the eyes requires different approaches than the rest of the face. They skin around the eyes is the most delicate. Use a very gentle touch in that area, choose products that deliver the most benefits in one and focus on massage to brighten the skin.

Tip #1: Be Extra Gentle

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the body. Naturally, it is much more delicate. When working around the eyes, use your gentlest pressure. Generally, the ring finger has the gentlest touch, so apply product using the ring finger. Dab lightly, and do not get too near the eye itself as this will cause irritation. When removing make-up or product, wipe gently using a cotton ball. Never pull at the skin.

Tip #2: Choose Multi-Tasking Products

Eyes show signs of aging first. Bags or wrinkles make people look older while bright, firm skin makes them look younger. Therefore you want to use products that achieve more than one effect: hydrate, improve elasticity, promote collagen production, minimize bags and soften lines. No one product can do all of this, so choose two products that cover the necessary treatments. Use a serum to brighten the skin and improve elasticity. Then, choose a moisturizer that repair target problems while firming and hydrating the under eye area.

Tip #3: Stimulate Blood flow

Massaging the area around the eye stimulates blood flow. This encourages lymph drainage, which promotes fresh, bright skin around the eyes. It also helps reduce discoloration and puffiness. Again, being gentle is the key. Using just the ring finger or ring and middle fingers, massage around the eye s moving in tight circles. Be extra careful in the inner-eye area. Use more direct pressure on the eyebrows, smoothing them down in the direction they grow. Pinch the eyebrow area gently to promote blood flow. Finish with a light patter all over the outer area of the eye and eyebrow, tapping the pads of your fingers over the skin gently.

Use these three tips both in your practice and at home. Your clients will be observing the state of your own skin, so make sure your eyes look bright and healthy.
