Once you have earned your esthetician license you are probably ready to start working somewhere. If you have not thought about it already, there are multiple facilities that need estheticians and you are not just limited to one industry. It is important for you to consider the many different places you can work once you graduate from esthetician school.
Dermatology Facilities
One of the many places you can work is at a dermatology facility. This position allows the esthetician to assist the dermatologist with helping patients and office procedures. The esthetician is typically responsible for explaining information to the patient and keeping the patient informed. It is not uncommon for estheticians to perform skin evaluations here as well.
Spas
One of the most common places for an esthetician to work is in a spa or salon facility. Here, the esthetician will be responsible for performing services offered by the spa. Your job may consist of skin analysis and skin treatments such as facials. You will be responsible for evaluating client’s skin and offering them services to help them with their skin problems. You can also recommend products to them and perform facial procedures.
Medical Spa
A medical spa differs from a traditional spa where you receive pampering and massages. This type of spa is a medical clinic and is a hybrid form of a traditional spa. A licensed doctor works here and operates within the legal limits of her duties. Medical spas are ideal and important because they offer additional treatments that you cannot get at a regular spa. Some of the services here include skin tightening, weight loss, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and more. As an esthetician, you will oversee different treatments as they are performed. You will be able to assist the doctors and offer advice and skin evaluations to patients.
Makeup Studio or Company
Licensed estheticians are sought by makeup companies. You can use your license in this industry to help show clients how to apply makeup, choose colors, and know what product will work with their skin. One of the biggest responsibilities in this role is teaching others how to apply their makeup. You should be confident with colors and using all types of makeup and tools to be the best in this position.

As an esthetician, it is your job and duty to help patients with their skin care. You will be responsible for giving the patients accurate information and performing thorough evaluations.
