If you are considering starting a massage therapy business, you may be wondering what exactly you will need. While massage tables and sheets for draping are obvious, there are plenty of other supplies you will want to keep on hand.

Antibacterial/Antimicrobial Cleanser

You will want to wipe down the massage table, counters, door handles and all other surfaces frequently to prevent the spread of germs. Keep hand sanitizer available for your clients, as well.

Tissues

Laying facedown on the table can cause some people to get a runny nose. It is also not uncommon for massage to release emotions in clients, some of whom may be moved to tears. You will want to keep several boxes around the massage space to offer clients.

Sanitary Pads and Tampons

It's not unusual for women to start their menses during a massage. If a woman arrives unprepared, it is both kind and professional to have menstrual supplies to offer her so that she does not ruin her clothing on the way home.

Incense or Scented Candles

Many people find that scented items help them to relax. These items can also help mask the medicinal odor of the cleansers you use to keep the massage space clean.

Eye Pillows and Washable Covers

When the client is laying on their back, the overhead light glaring down on them may be uncomfortable even with closed eyes. You should be able to offer an eye pillow to block out intrusive light. Have several washable covers on hand to avoid spreading around any eye irritations or transferring makeup from client to client.

Disposable Gloves

If a client does soil your sheets with body fluids, you may feel more comfortable handling them if you have disposable gloves. The same can be said for anything else unsavory you may find in your treatment space, such as used tissues.

Opening a massage therapy business requires you to think of your clients needs and anticipate them. All of these items will help make sure your business is a raving success!
