Do's and Don'ts of Wintertime Skin Care

Beautiful skin does not just happen on its own. You must understand your specific skin type and develop a skin care routine for hydration during the harsh winter weather. There are skin care products that can help protect and moisturize your skin. Develop a skin care routine twice each day for best results to prevent dryness. Read about the following wintertime skin care tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing throughout the winter.

Good Skincare Tips

Increase the amount of moisture during the winter by purchasing a high-quality moisturizer. Keep a trial size container with your moisturizer in your bag and carry it with you. Sleep with a humidifier to keep the room moist since most heating elements take away room moisture. Soothing and hydrated skin will result in less fine lines and wrinkles. Protect your face and hands with gloves and a scarf or hat. If you live in an area where the temperature falls below freezing, it is especially important to shield your skin from the elements.

Bad Skincare Tips

Avoid taking long, hot baths or showers to prevent moisture loss from your skin. Signs of dry skin include red, itchy patches on arms, legs, face and back. Do not skip the body lotion once you get out of the shower or bathtub. It is important to moisturize your body while it is still moist for best results. Minimize the time you take to exfoliate your skin. If you normally exfoliate twice a week, then cut down to one time every two weeks.

Your skin needs moisture to protect you from the harsh environment. Moist and supple skin will resist fine lines and wrinkles. Visit a dermatologist if you have signs of acne or other skin irritations. Avoid using harsh soaps while cleaning your face in the morning and at night.
