Don't Be SAD

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a condition that affects emotions to make some people feel depressed or anxious due to inadequate sunlight. While many people are able to adjust without a significant impact on their emotions, others can experience a significant mood change. Here are a few tips that may help.

Use Available Sunlight

Although sunlight can be limited during winter months, on days when the temperature rises enough to let you get outside safely, go for a ten- to fifteen-minute walk. Even that amount of light exposure can help to positively affect a person's mood. On super cold days, sit by a window in the sunlight and feel its warm reach on your skin for a few minutes.

Take Advantage of Indoor Lighting

Keep lights bright enough indoors to simulate sunlight. While you don't have to keep every light in the house on, use adequate wattage in the rooms you use most frequently and save dim lighting for night. A sun room, all-season room, or enclosed, heated patio are great places to relax and take in some extra sunlight without getting chilled.

Massage Therapy

Body massage can do wonders to release endorphins and raise mood levels. By releasing stress and promoting a sense of well-being, a massage therapist helps people relax and even experience meditation on peaceful images and spiritual inspiration to enhance the mood as a welcome break in the day. To enhance relaxation personal health should be carefully monitored and protected against mood deflators that can creep up unexpectedly, along with negative life events that can throw us into a slump.

It doesn't require much effort to get the body and mind back into synch when your mood plummets. Try techniques like these to start feeling good again soon.
