3 Types of Massage Oils

Love massage? Whether you're visiting a massage therapist or having your main squeeze give you one at home, you'll want to explore the massage oil options available. The kind you choose will play a large part in your relaxation during the massage. 1. Apricot Kernel Oil: Rich in Vitamin E, apricot kernel oil has a long shelf life, making it a great choice for those who only get massages once in a blue moon. 2. Coconut Oil: Most people think of coconut oil as solid, but when warmed, it turns into a light liquid oil. Coconut oil is ideal for people with dry skin. 3. Sweet Almond Oil: As one of the most popular types of massage oils, sweet almond oil easily glides over the skin and is absorbed quickly (though you won’t need to continually reapply the oil throughout the massage).

Benefits of Massage Oil

Massaging without oil is cumbersome and it can be uncomfortable for the person getting the massage. Not only does massage oil reduce friction, but it also hydrates the skin and can have aromatherapy benefits. For example, lavender oil is excellent for massage therapy that concentrates on acupressure points.

How to Make Massage Oil

1. Choose your favorite carrier oil - the basic ingredient in the massage oil. Grape seed, jojoba, avocado, wheat germ, and hazelnut oils are among the most popular. 2. Choose essential oils to combine with the carrier oil. Popular essential oils used in massage oils are rosewood, cinnamon, rose, peppermint, and jasmine. Add two or three drops of the essential oil to the carrier oil.
