Cuticle Care for the Little Ones
Posted on: June 26, 2013
Manicures are just as fun and relaxing for little girls as they are for adults. It's also important that the little ones to know that their nails serve a larger purpose than being pretty. Fingernails protect the tips of our hands and feet, and they provide a clue to a person's overall health. When performing a manicure on a young girl, the manicurist must alter her technique to accommodate her smaller client.Manicures are Good for Self-Esteem
Learning self-care is very important for little girls. Some parents believe that encouraging self care at an early age will make their daughters self-absorbed, but this couldn't be any further from the truth. In fact, indulging in self care is good for young girls' self-esteem. Low self-esteem among girls has reached crisis levels. Self care activities, such as manicures, has been proven to boost self-esteem and mindfulness in young girls and women.
How to Manicure a Young Girl
If you're performing a manicure on a young girl, you must alter your technique and take your time to prevent injury or damage to the little one's nails. As with any person, start off with clean and sanitized tools. You don't want to pass an infection to the little one and completely turn her off to the idea of manicures. Opt for natural and low-strength nail polish removers that aren't as strong or drying to the nails.
Be extra careful with sharp tools, such as nail files and nail clippers, when working with a young girl. Try to find manicure tools and kits that are made especially for little girls. Additionally, go extra slow when filing and buffing the nails of a little girl. Her young and sensitive nails cannot take the abrasion that an adult's nails can handle.
If the little one has hang nails or dry cuticles, oil her cuticles with olive oil to alleviate dryness and any pain associated with the hang nail. Never trim the cuticles or hang nails of a little girl; allow them to heal on their own.
