Creating the Perfect Spa Environment

When opening a massage therapy business a company needs not only great massage techniques but also the ability to create a welcoming environment for their guests. The ideal environment varies from guest to guest and should be based on the expectations of the targeted clients. However, there are some things that all spa centers should consider. Scent is a powerful tool in creating an ideal spa experience. Keep in mind that each client has a different relationship to various scents and avoid putting strong scents in the main lobby. Some clients may be allergic to strong perfumes and others may not appreciate traditional aromatherapy. Make sure the lobby smells fresh and clean and offer aromatherapy during individual massages. A dim environment helps to relax clients but can often be intimidating for first time clients. Diffused light works well in spa centers, but there should be enough light that the client does not have to strain their eyes. Keep the reception area well lit, with natural light if possible. Individual massage rooms should have dimming options in order to offer a slightly darker room for relaxation after a massage is completed. In saunas and jacuzzi rooms the client should be able to control lighting on their own. Decoration for massage centers is limited only by the imagination of the owner. Dark, rich colors make clients feel pampered and relaxed while light pastels, blues, and greens create a refreshing sensation. Choose a color scheme and fabrics that go with the desired tone of the establishment and make sure not to overdo dark colors as too much can make an individual feel oppressed. From scent to colors, there are many factors that go into the decoration of a spa center. Decoration should be intentional, adding to the overall experience. However, a spa center should always begin with a clean environment and excellent massage technique.
