Once you graduate from your esthetician program, you are probably wondering how exactly you can break into the beauty industry and start getting your own clients. There are a number of choices you have when it comes to where you choose to work and what area of skincare you choose to specifically focus on. Below are 5 tips to consider when you begin breaking into the industry. These tips will help you decide where you belong and what you need to do to achieve success.

Resume and Cover Letter

It is important for you to make sure that you are designing a cover letter and resume that scream to your potential employer. If your resume is boring or your cover letter does not highlight your skills, you may be passed over. When you do land an interview, you need to make sure that you are thanking the employer for their time and covering everything the employer asks while you are there.

Work Setting

One of the critical things you need to do before you begin job hunting is see where you want to work and where you fit in. Some people enjoy doing one thing in skincare while others enjoy doing other things inside the field. You can take tours of facilities, sit in for a day, or complete internships to decide what exactly is right for you and what you enjoy doing. Once you have an idea of where you want to be you can then start looking for employment in that field.

Branding

If you plan on working for yourself and not working at a spa facility, you will need to make a name for yourself. You should create a brand for yourself and then market it as much as you can. Social media is a great way for you to let others know about you and your business. If you work in a spa facility, you can still market yourself and the company you work for. Let your friends and family know where you work and how they can refer people to you and find you.

Network with Others

You must network as an esthetician. If you are not meeting new people then you are not advancing your career as much as you can. Many people in the beauty industry have gotten where they are because of networking and knowing someone that could help them.

Look the Part

As a skin care specialist, you need to look the part and carry yourself well. If you look like you do not care about your job or if you neglect your own skincare, who is really going to come into your facility. It is important for you to make sure that you dress professionally and keep up with your own skincare to ensure you present yourself well.

Start Looking Today

If you are unsure of how to break into the beauty industry, follow the tips above to find your way into it. You will always need to meet people and present yourself in a great manner. The more you invest in your career, the greater your outcome will be.
