In both Massage School as well as Esthetics School you will learn about body wraps and scrubs. You will learn the difference between detoxing, hydrating and slimming wraps. Most body wraps will start with a type of dry body brushing and exfoliation. Exfoliation assists the product in penetrating the skin as deep as possible for the best results.

Detox Wraps

Detox wraps use a variety of products such as algae, seaweed, mud, clay, or gel to help rid the body of toxins. When the product is applied to the body it’s called a body mask. After you apply the mask, you then wrap your client in plastic and cover with a blanket. In school they will teach you the proper ways of body wrapping so you and your client feel comfortable. The client will stay wrapped up for about 20 minutes while the products work together by stimulating their circulation, drawing out impurities and giving your clients’ body minerals they may be missing. After the 20 minutes is over, you will then wash the mask off unless your spa has a shower in the room, then you will let the client rinse off themselves. After the mask is off, you will then apply lotion to their body. Make sure that the clients who are scheduled for the full body detoxing wraps refrained from alcohol the night before because the wrap can make them sick. The clays, muds and seaweeds may be natural, but they can make your client feel worse off. So make you ask the right questions and inform your clients before you start the service.

Hydrating Wraps

As for the hydrating body wraps, creams and gels will be used to soften, soothe and hydrate the skin. Again, before you start, always use some sort of exfoliant or recommend your clients to get a body scrub beforehand, so that the service is more beneficial for the client. The rich cream you use on the client does not only sit on the surface, the scrub will remove the outermost dead skin cells. Generally with the hydrating body wraps, you would just massage the cream in, and not have them rinse this one off.

Once you get into the field you will enjoy seeing body wraps on your books, because they tend to help break up a day and give your hands a bit of a rest from constant massage.
