Methods of Shaping Eyebrows

There are quite a few methods of shaping eyebrows:

• Tweezing


• Waxing eyebrows


• Threading

Each of these methods has advantages and disadvantages. Tweezing is the most common method, since it's easy for most women to maintain themselves at home. Waxing is another popular method, but requires a trained esthetician. It tends to last longer than plucking, however, and is a great option for unruly eyebrow growth. Threading is much less common, but gives a much cleaner look than the other two methods. To remove eyebrow hairs, the esthetician will capture the hair between two strings, then twist them to remove the hair.

Popular Eyebrow Shapes

Eyebrow shape depends on several different factors. The most important one is face shape - long faces do better with less arched eyebrows, while angular faces need curvier brows for balance. Where the arch sits, how high the peak is and whether the brow is curvy or angular are just a few of the decisions that need to be made.

In the past, thinner eyebrows were more prominent and popular. However, there has been a recent return to thicker, more natural looking eyebrows. No one style or thickness works for everybody, however, so an esthetician needs to work with his or her client to determine their needs.

Filling in Eyebrows

Add a finishing touch to any eyebrow by filling in the shape with eyebrow powder. This helps define the shape and gives a "finished" look to the brow. Women with lighter brows are particularly well-suited to have their eyebrows filled in, since their lighter hair tends to blend in more easily.
