Behave Yourself!

There was a time not too many years ago when the words 'massage parlor' were associated more with the shady side of life and illegal activities. Today, however, massage therapy has been proven to have many health benefits and is a widely accepted form of treatment. Becoming a certified massage therapist requires training and education, and, in most states, is regulated. Once training is completed and you're ready to embark on your career, there are a few things to consider to assure the success of your venture. Whether working for an established business or opening your own, be sure your shop or work area is immaculately clean with everything in order. Clients may feel uneasy about disrobing if cleanliness is an issue or the massage area is untidy. Be prepared with everything you will need close at hand. First impressions can make or break your business. Be a good listener; the client should be comfortable and feel as if he/she is the most important part of your day. First-time clients with no massage experience may not know exactly what to expect, but by listening closely, you will be better able to ascertain what the client expects or needs and provide a great service. Above all, be professional in all areas of your business. Each client should be given the same prompt, courteous attention and made to feel as if their business is appreciated. Even when you may be having a bad day, the customer should never be made to feel as if they are intruding on your time. Any information given by the client should be held in strict confidence, no gossiping! When you look and act the part of a professional and give good service, clients are more likely to become regular customers and tell their friends and family. Word of mouth is great free advertising!
