The world of massage therapy changes consistently, as scientists and doctors continue to learn how the muscles interact with the rest of the body. A massage professional can fall behind quickly if he or she does not keep up with recent trends and changes to their industry. Perhaps, as a massage therapist, you find yourself in this rut. Customers stop calling in exchange for someone who is up to date with the latest massage therapy trends, and your business slowly bleeds away. This is a travesty for any massage therapist; don't let it happen to you.

1. Staying Up to Date

The biggest trend in massage therapy is the need for consumer protection. As the popularity of massage grows, so does the number of "fake" massagers that only aim to take advantage of people. Consumers are beginning to look for certifications that protect them against harm. If your business is not certified, work toward your certification to stay up to date with consumer need. If your state requires a certification to practice, make sure the certification stays up to date.

2. Work on Their Terms

Consumers are beginning to lean toward massage therapy as an alternative to medical doctors. Doctors used to be held in the highest regard when it came to health, now, with innovative studies into the benefits of massage, more people are trying alternative medicines. Sharing the easily accessible research into alternative medicine is beneficial to every massage therapist. If you find yourself in a rut, use reputable studies to prove to future clients that massage works. Add it to your website or simply quote it during your elevator pitch. Be sure to give clients references to research so they can read the evidence for themselves. Working on their terms will get more clients to trust you and come back to you every time.
