Have you had doubts about the type of treatment you should be giving your clients? Not sure what type of massage you should offer them? When not try the use of allied modalities. This type of massage therapy can be very effective depending on the needs of your client. There are several different types of allied modalities that a massage therapist could use. For starters, your client may respond well to the use of hot packs on the affected area. Does your client have arthritis pain that causes stiff muscles? Or do they have sore joints? Heat pads can help alleviate some of that pain, even if it is chronic. However, you may want to try ice packs if the pain is caused by inflammation or swelling of a muscle. This method helps to reduce the amount of blood flow to the affected area and can simultaneously numb the pain. Another method used are heat lamps. Once again, the heat helps relax the muscles and boosts circulation and blood flow to the affected area. Pain can also be contributed to the lactic acid waste buildup but using the heat lamps can help reduce that problem. It also can reduce inflammation and relieve pain of the affected area. It can also be used to encourage wound healing but just be sure that your client's skin can handle such treatment. Lastly, pain can be managed with topical treatments through the use of balms. Balms can be applied to the affected area and focuses on immediate pain relief. Balms have a heat reaction and works similar to the above mentioned treatments. Allied modality methods used by massage therapist can be very effective. Have a thorough talk with your client to see what option has the best fit for their ailment.
