Becoming a manicurist is now a popular career choice. Manicurists must graduate from school and become certified by the state that they work in before they are able to practice their craft.People who are best suited to become manicurists are those who like to work with their hands and people who consider themselves a "people person". Manicurists are trained to clean, trim and polish nails. They are also able to provide nail extensions. A manicurists' table contains many tools for sculpting and finishing including polishes, files, emery boards and cuticle knives. It is important that their work area remains clean and that they pay special attention to detail. Although most people think that manicurists focus solely on the beautification of the nails, their role extends beyond that. At most salons or spas, the manicurist is the one who provides treatment for removal of unwanted hair. Manicurists many need to remove hair from the face, legs, bikini area or arms by using either wax, tweezers or depilatories. According to the Bureau of Labor, manicurists can expect to earn between $17,760 and $30,600 a year.
