7 Top Tips Before Getting a Massage
Posted on: February 9, 2015
Part of making your massage therapy experience the best it can be is to prepare beforehand. To ensure you do that, follow these 7 top tips before getting a massage.
Do your research
If you are getting a massage for the first time or are going to a new provider, research them to ensure the staff and techniques line up with what you want.
Make sure you are in the right frame of mind
The main purpose of getting a massage is relaxation and releasing tension. To get the most benefit from your massage, you have to be in the right frame of mind. If you are in a stressful period at work and will return back to it right after the massage, it may not be the best time. Try to make sure you can have at least 24 hours to enjoy the benefits of the massage.
Prepare for the massage
Though you are going to your massage therapist to help you relax, you will make her job easier by preparing ahead of time. You might try meditation or another relaxing technique to prepare.
Don't eat or drink before your massage
Having to get up to go to the bathroom can break the rhythm of your massage and lessen the experience.
Make your desires clear
When you set up your massage appointment, make sure you impart your expectations to the person doing the booking. For example, if you prefer a male or female massage therapist, you should let the person know. You also should let the person know if you want any additions to your massage, such as aromatherapy.
Arrive early
The time for which your appointment is scheduled is the time you are expected to be on the table and ready to go, which means you need to show up early enough to get undressed and in your robe. Ten to 15 minutes should be sufficient.
Talk with your therapist
If you have any areas you don't want massaged because of modesty or injury, let your massage therapist know up front before he starts the massage.
