A massage is a way to relax your body, muscles, and joints from the stress and pain they feel every day. When your body becomes too stressed, you will begin to feel exhausted, tired, tense, and aches and pains will happen. Injuries also happen quickly and more easily when you are stressed. A hot stone massage is one way to relax your body and feel good at the same time. This type of massage is performed using heated stones which help improve blood circulation and relax your joints and muscles.

Tips on performing massages are always something that is needed. Some people perform to receive their massage one way and someone else will like it done differently. Check out these quick tips for performing a hot stone massage.

Tip #1: Be careful with the amount of oil or moisturizer you put on the stones. The stones have a tendency to become slippery after oils have been applied to them and you do not want the rock slipping out of your hand.

Tip #2: Always make sure you have a firm grasp on the rock. This will prevent the stone from falling out of your hand or not performing the way you need it to.

Tip #3: The best stones to use are typically river rocks. They are soft on both sides and will prevent scratches on your clients. Other stones are available but be aware that some may be more rough than river rocks.

Tip #4: Always monitor the heat bath that the rocks are in. If the water is too hot, you may burn your client. You can test the water first to ensure that it is not scalding and will be comfortable for the client.

Tip #5: Communicate with your client and learn why they are having a hot stone massage performed. Maybe they have a problem area they want you to focus on.

Tip #6: When you are done performing a hot stone massage, make sure to effectively get the oil or lotion off of the stones first and then sanitize them.

Tip #7: When performing a hot stone massage, make sure that you keep your client comfortable. You never want your client to be in pain and a massage should never hurt.

Tip #8: Always cover the entire body when you are performing your massage. Do not skip the back of the legs or focus more on one area than another, unless asked for by the client.

Tip #9: Keep different sized stones in your facility. This will allow you to use the proper stone for the proper parts of the body.

Tip #10: Know how long it takes to heat your stones and have them preheated before your client arrives. It would be embarrassing for you to go to perform the massage and only have cold stones available.

Hot stone massages are great for individuals who want relief from the aches and pains of their body. The heat helps improve blood circulation and recipients of a hot stone massage will feel better afterwards.
