Course Description:
This workshop will introduce protocols for hands-on. Protocols are designed to establish a way for the profession to become familiar and comfortable with the application of massage techniques for pathological conditions. The protocols are intended for use on complaint-related conditions and syndromes. Medical history, palpate and assessment skills, and ongoing client/therapist communication are all important to the successful treatment of soft tissue pathologies. These routines are a model for massage therapist to do their work and to feel comfortable in addressing their patients’/clients’ pathologies. These protocols offer a basis for which you can establish your own individualized work as a Massage Therapist. Repetitive motion injuries are caused by the repeated flexing and extending of a joint against resistance, which may result from activity or manual manipulation of tools or other equipment. Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI), also known as repetitive motion injuries, encompass a broad spectrum of injuries that are related to inefficient biomechanics including general posture, sporting movements, and work habits. The constant single motion combined with compressive forces, causes injury in the soft tissues. The progression of injury goes from muscle soreness to increased tonus to the formation of multiple trigger points, and in some cases to nerve entrapment. Chronic injuries may result in subluxation or trauma to the joint, including bursitis, arthritis and even stress fractures of involved bones. We will cover Bursitis, Frozen Shoulder, Rotator Cuff, Tennis Elbow, Golfer Elbow, Tendinitis/tenosynovistis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Dupuytren’s Contracture.
