Peaceful, Beautiful woman, relaxing

Your instructors will touch on a few different massage modalities that you can specialize in. Completing the continuing education courses will help broaden your career and make you a more desirable hire to potential employers. I’m going to talk about a few modalities that deal with energy work, as well as more of the healing elements. Massage is not just about healing the body through deep pressure work. If you have a gift for helping others, then some of these might be great for you! So let’s dive into a couple of those modalities…

Craniosacral Therapy (CST)

This is a gentle, hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movements of fluids in and around the central nervous system. This technique helps relieve tension in the central nervous system and helps promote a feeling of wellbeing by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity. The focus of CST is a gentle placement of hands to assist release of the body’s connective tissue, or “fascia.” Fascia (Latin meaning “band”) is a covering found throughout the body including organs, glands nerves, muscles, blood vessels, brain and spinal cord. CST is thought to improve efficiency of biological processes through boosting inherent self-regulation, self-correction and self-healing.

Aromatherapy

This is a healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to help promote your health and wellbeing. During an Aromatherapy massage, you would inhale the essential oil molecules or absorb them through your skin. They are thought to promote beneficial changes in your mind and body by affecting the limbic system (region of the brain known to be involved with emotion). This is where listening to your clients’ concerns and needs comes into play. During an aromatherapy massage, you will choose which oil would best suite your client. Whether the focus is relaxation, relieving stress, or an uplifting energy boost, there is an oil that addresses each need.

Reiki

So what is Reiki? Reiki is a form of alternative therapy that is commonly referred as energy healing. It started in Japan in the late 1800’s, and it is said to involve the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms to their patients. Energy healing has actually been used for centuries. Those who have received Reiki proclaim that it really does work and it is becoming more and more popular. There are many healing ailments from receiving Reiki. If you have a passion for helping people, then this might be a great modality for you to look into and do further research on. The state of Florida requires a massage license in order to perform Reiki.
