When you work in a business that handles people on a daily basis, you need to make sure that you are meeting their expectation at minimum. It is best to exceed your client’s expectations and provide them with a “wow” factor so that they recommend you and they keep coming back. It is not uncommon to hear about someone losing a client due to a bad experience but this happens all too often and can be prevented. As a skin care specialist, it is your duty to help people with their skin and consult them in a professional manner. Too many mistakes and you will end up making a bad name for yourself and losing your client base.

Clientele is Priority

One thing many estheticians forget is that their clients are their number one priority. That means put the phone down, end your conversation with the other girls, and get to work. You should solely be focusing on who is in front of you and what your client needs. Remember, your clients do not come into your office just to be put second. If you continue to make them feel like they are not your number one priority, they will find another company or skin care specialist who will.

Professionalism

This is a major thing that many people need to work on in every industry, but especially in skin care. As an esthetician, you need to be professional in all of your dealings with clients and when you are working. It is important to dress professionally and carry yourself in a professional manner. If you walk around the office cursing or talking about things your clients do not care to hear, they will look down on this. It is also important to make sure you stick to your policies and rules at all times. This ensures your professionalism and will help keep a good view of the company.

Overscheduling

Overambitious skin care specialists can ruin it for themselves. You want to make sure you keep an even schedule throughout the day so that you are busy but not over busy. If you overschedule too many clients, then you will have too many of them waiting on you and this looks bad. It will also anger and upset clients as they make appointments to be seen, not to wait. When you overschedule, you are also wearing yourself thin and this can show in your work. You may use the wrong moisturizer, suggest the wrong color, or you just may not perform the way you need to.

Equipment and Tools

Being prepared in the skin care industry is important and it means you are able to provide your clients with what they need. If someone shows up to your facility and you cannot accommodate their needs, they will walk out and find somewhere else. Always have your tools on hand and your equipment ready to be used.

Conversation

You have probably run into a client that was rude to you or maybe they had really bad skin. This is not a free pass to talk about them to your co-workers, especially when other clients are present. This ties in with professionalism and is extremely important to remember. To avoid this situation altogether, just keep your negative comments to yourself. If you need to speak with your boss about a particular client, do it behind closed doors and not out in the open. Keep yourself together and remember that you are in the industry of helping people. As an esthetician it is your job to provide people with the skin care and beauty tips they need.
